From paper to WalletGuided implementation

Stop reprinting cards. Keep building customer loyalty.

Every print run, lost stamp card or reward change creates work for your business. Vuelvy helps you replace paper loyalty cards with passes in Apple Wallet and Google Wallet: a managed transition with clear customer benefits and less reliance on printing.

  • Fewer reprints
  • Earned stamps respected
  • No bespoke app to develop
  • Measured savings, not assumptions
01

The cost goes beyond the print run

Review invoices for cards, delivery and redesigns, then consider the time spent issuing replacements and checking rewards. An inexpensive batch can become unusable if the offer changes before you run out. If you print very little and your current process works, paper savings alone may not justify a digital service.

  • Cards printed, handed out and still in stock
  • Replacements for lost cards and design changes
  • Staff time and validation errors
  • Repeat purchases you can actually identify
02

What changes when the card moves to Wallet

Customers follow a QR code or link and choose to save their pass. On their next visit, they present it so authorised staff can validate the action against the programme rules. Benefits and progress can be updated without issuing another physical card. You do not need a bespoke app, but customers need a compatible device and a clear enrolment journey. Scanning a QR code is not a purchase and does not automatically earn a stamp.

03

Replace paper stamp cards without starting over

Before retiring the paper version, we agree which benefits remain and how they will be verified. We do not promise to read every paper card automatically or import data your existing system cannot export. Moving balances may require staff review or a specific integration.

  • Document the current reward, stamp threshold, expiry rules and outstanding cards.
  • Agree an equivalent balance and explain it before the switch; do not erase earned progress without explanation.
  • Verify the presented balance and record which card was transferred to prevent duplicate redemption.
  • Train staff and set a period of parallel operation with a clear process for exceptions.
  • Reduce new print runs as adoption allows, respecting the terms already communicated.
04

Calculate net savings, not just cards you stop ordering

Compare periods of equal length and similar trading activity. Separate avoided printing and replacement spend from setup fees, service charges, integration and support. Time saved may free up capacity without reducing payroll costs. A saved pass alone does not prove that one fewer card was printed.

  • Net savings for the period = avoided paper and printing spend − additional digital costs for that period.
  • Paper cards per 100 enrolments: cards handed out ÷ programme enrolments × 100.
  • Adoption: customers moving to Wallet ÷ customers offered the switch, using the same measurement window.
  • Business outcome: confirmed repeat visits or purchases, reward cost and redemption issues.

Sustainability: less paper, with claims you can substantiate

Replacing physical cards can reduce paper used by this programme if printing actually falls. That does not make the business zero-waste or demonstrate lower carbon emissions: devices, networks and servers also have an impact. Record materials, print runs and periods. A net environmental claim needs an appropriate life-cycle comparison. The ADEME reference explains that general principle; it does not certify Vuelvy.

  • State which printed item you replaced and which units you measured.
  • Use existing stock where it fits the transition.
  • Do not convert installed passes into trees saved or avoided emissions without a methodology.

A practical switch at the till, with customers included

A café needs quick validation; a salon needs to recognise less frequent visits; a shop needs clear qualifying-purchase rules. These are use scenarios, not measured results. Plan an alternative for customers who cannot use Wallet and a process for connectivity or battery problems. Validation rules and staff permissions matter more than removing all paper overnight.

How Vuelvy solves it

We review your programme, costs, visit frequency and tools. Then we design the pass, recognition of existing benefits, QR or link enrolment and validation, and agree how to measure adoption, issues and repeat visits. Wallet Marketing is our speciality, but there is no one-size-fits-all formula. Bring your current stamp card and recent printing invoices: we will assess whether the switch makes sense and what your business needs.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I switch from paper stamp cards to digital?

Define equivalent stamps, verify balances and explain the transition. Vuelvy designs enrolment and validation; transferring balances may be staff-assisted or require an integration, depending on your current system.

Will customers lose stamps they have already earned?

The transition should account for existing rewards. We agree how to verify and transfer them while preventing duplicate redemption. Automatic import of every existing card is not assumed.

Are paperless loyalty cards always cheaper?

No. It depends on print runs, replacements, volume and digital costs. We compare avoided spend with setup and ongoing operation, without promising fixed savings or treating staff capacity as cash saved.

Is a digital loyalty card necessarily more sustainable?

It can reduce programme paper use when it replaces actual printing. Claiming a lower total environmental impact requires evaluating digital infrastructure and the life cycle as well, not simply counting passes.

Do customers need to download another app?

They do not need a bespoke app for your business. Passes are saved in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet on compatible devices; customers without Google Wallet may need to install it. Plan an alternative for those unable to use it.

Can I introduce Wallet without withdrawing every paper card at once?

Yes. You can plan a gradual rollout with parallel-operation rules and a review date. Scope depends on your business processes; there is no universal timeline or guaranteed outcome.
